In the Edo era, people used furoshiki to carry their clothes to public baths. They spread out furoshiki on the floor like a bath mat and took their clothes off on it. Then they wrapped their clothes with the furoshiki to make space for others.

Sizes and Materials

  • 90 square cm or bigger is suitable for bags. 45 to 50 square cm can wrap bottles or paperbacks. You can make a belt bag or tissue box cover too.

  • Furoshiki made of cotton are suitable for bags. For a gift package such as a wine or Sake bottle, it is recommended to use a synthetic fiber cloth.
